The apple really doesn't fall far from the tree! A vintage 1957 photograph of Prince Philip has been causing people to double take this week, thanks to his uncanny resemblance to his grandson, Prince Harry. The recently unearthed image from Paris Match magazine shows Philip, then 36, dressed in his Royal Navy uniform, and sporting a full red beard very similar to the one Harry sports today.

It was first shared on Instagram by Getty Images Royal Photographer Chris Jackson, and, as People magazine writes: "With their matching pale blue eyes, red beards and mischievous smiles, there's no denying the family resemblance between the two royals."

Of course, the similarities don't end there. Like his grandfather, Prince Harry, 32, has a strong sense of duty. Philip, 95, joined the Navy in 1939 and served during WWII; his grandson, meanwhile, served in the British Army for 10 years, and was deployed to Afghanistan twice.

The pair also share a wicked sense of humour. Harry is well known for his cheeky personality – especially when he teams up with big brother Prince William. Prince Philip, meanwhile, has a reputation for his sharp one-liners; it was recently revealed that the Queen was advised not to marry the Duke because courtiers thought he was too funny.

The pair share a number of traits, including their matching red beards and pale blue eyes

Harry was certainly in high spirits on Wednesday as he paid a visit to the National Ice Centre in Nottingham, where he was presented with his very own pair of ice skates. "Thank you guys. I'm glad you gave them to me at the end, otherwise I would actually have put them on," he told the group of apprentice sports coaches. "Missed opportunity!"
