A radiant Princess Maxima joined her husband, Prince Willem-Alexander, heir to the Dutch throne, as the royal couple embarked upon a four-day tour of Turkey on Tuesday.
Willem-Alexander and his wife, who was dressed in a characteristically vibrant shade of fuchsia, explored the city of Ankara on Wednesday, attending a ceremony at the Kemal Ataturk mausoleum. The day's agenda also included a visit to the Cappadocia region, about 150 kilometres southeast of Ankara, famed for its dramatic volcanic rock formations and ancient underground cities.
The nearby town of Avanos provided opportunities for sightseeing and shopping, as well as a tour of a traditional pottery workshop, where the prince and princess checked out the local handiwork.
Earlier in the day, the couple enjoyed breakfast with Turkey's President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, and also met with the country's prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
