Lady Marina Windsor and Nico Macauley gathered their closest friends and family for their breathtaking North Yorkshire wedding, including Marina’s grandfather the Duke of Kent and sister Lady Amelia Windsor – but they weren't the only important attendees.
Alongside the 279-strong guest list were several animals, which the happy bride exclusively told HELLO! were an "extra heavenly element."
In line with Marina and Nico's relaxed wedding atmosphere, three family dogs walked down the aisle. Their adorable wedding party was made up of Ronnie, the Macauleys' black labrador; Bramble, the Duke of Kent’s golden labrador; and a Parsons Jack Russell called Gyda, belonging to Marina’s brother, Edward.
Including pets in their big day was not without its difficulties, as Nico recalled their "hilarious" trip down the aisle.
"They were all going in the wrong places. Ronnie was sitting in the reverend’s seat at the start of the service. They were saying hello to everyone. And then Bramble got in the way of the choir and was trying to get up when they were singing. That was very funny," the cybersecurity specialist said.
Marina's decision to ask her grandfather Prince Edward's dog Bramble to have a special role in the wedding was particularly poignant, given that her grandmother the Duchess of Kent was notably absent from the family celebrations. Preserving the memory of the late music teacher, who died in September 2025 aged 92, Marina hosted her celebrations at All Saints' Church and 18th-century Palladian country house Hovingham Hall in Hovingham, where Katharine spent her childhood.
Wedding surprise from Marina's in-laws
One animal the royal was not expecting to see was a local donkey called Ellie that her new mother-in-law had arranged as a wedding surprise.
"I was incredibly touched because Nico's mother, Nicky, organised the surprise donkey," Marina said. "It was beautifully decorated with flowers and carrying around confetti for everyone to throw."
The addition was a welcome surprise, with Marina stating: "I wanted to have as many animals as possible, and we had sort of forgotten about that, so it made me so happy. It was the most wonderful, extra heavenly element."
Love story
The couple met as teenagers, but it wasn't until a friend’s birthday in Morocco that they began dating.
Nico chose their home in London as the setting for his intimate proposal, popping the question with a family heirloom while Marina was watching All Creatures Great and Small.
He presented his future bride with a sapphire and baguette diamond ring that belonged to his late grandmother, Elizabeth, who died in late 2024.
Looking back at their summer solstice wedding, the bride told HELLO!: "It’s honestly been one magical, sublime dream after another. Every moment has felt as though we were in our absolute dream wedding."
