BILLIE PIPER AND CHRIS EVANS 'THE SCRUFFY POSH AND BECKS'

The mother of teenage singer – and bride – Billie Piper has likened her daughter and new son-in-law Chris Evans to another famous couple. Mandy Piper, who, at 39, is just three years older than Chris, said that the newly-weds “seem to have become a scruffier version of Posh and Becks.” The mother of four also claimed that Billie is “more settled” since her and Chris’s big day. “She is under less pressure and finally able to sit back and look at things in perspective.”

Continuing on this theme, Mrs Piper said that Billie “used to get very upset when there were pictures of her in the paper making her look fat or in a mess – but the other day there was a picture of her popping out wearing an old tracksuit, and she is now beyond caring.”

Mandy, who has three more children – Charlie, 12, Harley, ten and eight-year-old Ellie – and lives in Swindon with her husband Paul, in the house where Billie grew up, talked of her respect for the millionaire media mogul and presenter. “I definitely feel that she (Billie) is safer under Chris’s wing, and he is looking after her well. There is no doubt she has certainly changed since she met him. She was at the cricket at Lord’s and even seems to be taking an interest in golf and football these days. Billie was never interested in sports. It is a testament to their relationship that she is prepared to go with him.”

However, Mandy kept mum when quizzed about the pregnancy rumours surrounding the 18-year-old singer. “She’d be very young to start a family, but it would be great news. I cannot confirm or deny it, though,” said Mandy. She was also cagey about her daughter’s future plans. “I do know what she is going to do next, but she’ll kill me if I tell you any more. She still has her music contract, but I think she is planning other things.”

Mandy, a housewife, spoke of her sadness of missing her daughter’s wedding last month in Las Vegas. “Of course it was disappointing not to be at the wedding. We knew about it, but we simply couldn’t make it. It all happened so quickly and we had responsibilities here, with three other children and my husband’s job. We couldn’t just drop everything and go. They wanted to get it out of the way quickly for one reason or another and that’s that. I don’t think she felt any need to get married this young, I just think it felt right. I am just happy because Billie is happy.”
