President Donald Trump and his wife Melania celebrated 21 years of marriage in 2026, and have kept the inner workings of their life mostly private. But this week Donald revealed a very rare insight, alleging that Melania addresses him the same way as his staff, calling him "sir."
The comment came during a rally in Texas on October 7, 2026 after Donald had flown to the typically red state to support struggling Republican candidate Ken Paxton. As the president began criticising Democratic state representative James Talarico, claiming that the politician who is running for US senate in November's midterms is a vegan, he went off on a tangent about the correct pronunciation of the word "vegan."
He then shared that he discovered he had been saying it wrong for years, thanking Melania for the correction.
"You know, my wife told me, 'sir, you have to do me a favor — it’s not vay-gan, it’s vee-gan,'" Trump told the crowd.
Talarico has denied the allegations he is vegan, which are also coming from Paxton's campaign, but the claims have not stopped.
"Now he says he loves meat, but he's a vegan — see, Melania? I got that right," laughed Donald. "He's a vegan. He wants to eat a piece of lettuce, a little piece of lettuce, please."
Melania and Donald have always kept their home life out of the spotlight; she gave very few details in her 2024 memoir although she did speak about bonding with Donald's children when they began dating and acknowledged that they often have differing opinions.
"Stepping into a marriage with Donald, I found myself navigating the intricate dynamics of his big family," she wrote.
"It demanded flexibility and openness, but each moment was a chance to connect, learn, and grow in this new environment."
Melania went on: "While I may not agree with every opinion or choice expressed by Donald's grown children, nor do I align with all of Donald's decisions, I acknowledge that different viewpoints are a natural aspect of human relationships."
Born in Slovenia, Melania was a model working in Europe before she moved to America as an immigrant in 1996.
"Coming to New York City? That was my moment,” she wrote, sharing her own experiences with the immigration process and how complicated it was for her to become an American citizen.
She met Donald in 1998, writing that he approached her table inside a New York City nightclub while he was on another date. They bonded over a love of Elvis Presley and Elton John, as well as baseball and Broadway shows
They married in 2005 in Florida, and welcomed their only son Barron a year later.
In a recent interview, Melania shared that she always "tells [Donald] the truth" even when he "sometimes doesn't want to hear it."
