Veteran Irish actor Richard Harris, most recently seen as Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, has revealed he is fighting Hodgkin’s Disease.

The star’s agent told the BBC that Richard has been in University College Hospital in central London for the last two months, and has been undergoing chemotherapy for the disease.

“Richard has responded very, very well to treatment and he should be out of hospital soon,” said his agent. The 72-year-old is expected to be discharged in time to take part in the filming of the third Harry Potter instalment, The Prisoner of Azkaban, which begins in March.

The Gladiator actor, who signed on to all seven of the popular fantasy films, entered hospital in August suffering from a chest infection. He had already completed work on the sequel to the first Harry Potter saga, The Chamber Of Secrets, which is due to premiere in the UK in November.
