It seems confidence-exuding socialite and aspiring actress Alexandra Aitken has finally landed her big break onto the silver screen. The daughter of disgraced minister Jonathan Aitken, Ali, as she is known, tells The Telegraph she is to star alongside Oscar-nominated actress Samantha Morton in the screen version of Ian McEwan's novel Enduring Love.

"A lot of people would not have seen me making the leap into being a serious actress because I was always being photographed leaving clubs," says the 21-year-old socialite, who already has cameos in a couple of arthouse films under her belt.

"But I've done it," she adds. "I'm finally going to be taken seriously. I play a Polish au pair. I live next door to a Polish café, so I've been there learning the accent.

If she does manage to carve out a career for herself on the big screen, Alexandra will be true to her roots. "People always think of me as a politician's daughter, but we've got more actors than politicians in our family and I'm trying to learn from them," she says.
