Jamie and Louise take time out with their son

Former soccer star Jamie Redknapp had to face many tough challenges over the course of his sporting career, but now that he is retired the 32-year-old is obviously happy to show a softer side to his personality. The former England player was snapped lavishing affection on his wife Louise and their little boy Charley during a day out in London this week. With one arm draped around his partner's shoulder, the hunky athlete pushed Charley's buggy through the streets of the capital. And Jamie also seemed keen to give his son, who celebrated his first birthday just last week, plenty of attention.

The tot's big day will have been especially significant for the couple as they had to overcome great difficulties to realise their dream of starting a family. Louise was diagnosed with endometriosis, which can cause infertility, but subsequently underwent successful laser surgery. "Words can't describe how special this feels to us," said her husband when, after four years of trying, they were finally blessed with a baby boy.

Now that he has retired from professional football Jamie is spending as much time with his loved-ones as possible. That's not to say he doesn't have plans for the future, as he has also signed up to become a pundit on BBC's Match Of The Day. Louise, who first made her name as a singer with the girl band Eternal, is meanwhile teaming up with mobile phone company 02 to promote a new "search for a model" competition.

The family's trip to London came just two weeks after they received a nasty scare at their home in Surrey. A gang of burglars broke into the £3.5-million mansion while they were sleeping, but fortunately pet bullbogs Bella and Winnie soon scared the raiders off.
