Model players tee off at Celtic Manor Open

The golf course might not be the first place you'd expect to find top models and actresses hanging out, but there was a distinctly glamorous flavour to Ladies Day at the Celtic Manor Open this year. Former EastEnder Michelle Collins and catwalk queen Yasmin Le Bon were both among the famous faces teeing off as the charity event got underway on Saturday.

Simon Le Bon's pretty wife was being hailed as something of a heroine after she stepped in to replace hostess Rachel Hunter at the last minute. Rod Stewart's ex-wife had signed up to take centre stage at the event, but she was forced to pull out at the eleventh hour because of an ear infection. And Yasmin, who was looking elegant in a vintage-style chiffon dress, didn't have to think twice when she was asked to step up to the plate.

The mum-of-three confessed she and her husband would be doing their best to avoid getting a taste for the sport, however. "Simon and I have made a pact not to start getting interested in it," she revealed. "We're the type to get hooked and I've seen so many friends start playing and lose their partners to golfing holidays!"

It was already too late for her fellow model Jodie Kidd, who is well-known for her love of the game. The statuesque blonde, who was accompanied by her mum Wendy and husband Aidan Butler, was intent on spending as much time on the green as possible. "We've been here since Wednesday for the Pro-Am tournament," she said. "It's my little retreat now."
