Emma Bunton and Judi Dench help turn London festive

Emma Bunton and Dame Judi Dench were both on dazzling form as they helped light up London's festive displays. And Emma went one step further when she entertained onlookers with a song and dance routine before switching on the Covent Garden Christmas lights.

The former Spice Girl was joined by her Strictly Come Dancing partner Darren Bennett. And the pair wasted no time in putting their hard work into action as they impressed the crowds with some fancy footwork. Emma, who wore a festive berry-red coat and black beret for the occasion, also sang her new single Downtown, released in aid of kids' charity Children In Need, before putting all her effort into turning on the lights in the capital's theatre district.

Casino Royale star Judi was also helping illuminate the British capital, switching on the lights at an 007-themed charity event in Burlington Arcade near Piccadilly. The veteran actress, who plays Bond's boss M, was in glamorous mode as she received flowers next to a silver Aston Martin Vanquish used in the Bond flick Die Another Day. The good-humoured star joked she was being upstaged by the snazzy vehicle, however. "It's great to turn up to an event like this, but then you get out and all they want is photos of the car," she quipped. "Not that I mind though."

The Oscar-winner reminisced to the 800 guests about her childhood memories of London. "The first time I came to London when I was a teenager we drove along Piccadilly, which you could do then. And my father said to me, 'On your left is one of the only streets where you're not allowed to run and you're not allowed to whistle.' Now I've been here to turn on the lights I expect to be able to run and whistle as much as I like."
