'Dr Who' star David Tennant swaps roles for TV spoof

Doctor Who fans could be forgiven for thinking the Timelord had given up his day job following the release of photos of actor David Tennant in an altogether sexier little outfit than his usual 'geek chic' wardrobe.

The blonde curly wig, slinky black top and skirt, skyscraper heels and red lipstick were all just a temporary transformation, however. David was hamming up it as Dr Who's assistant for an appearance on sketch show The Friday Night Project

Justin Lee Collins, the host of the Channel 4 programme, took on the mantle of The Doctor in the spoof scheduled to air on January 5.

Doctor Who fans will no doubt be relieved to know that Scotsman David returns to his usual persona in the third series of the popular sci-fi programme - leaving the job of assistant to gorgeous newcomer Freema Agyeman.

Freema, who replaces David's former Tardis companion Billie Piper, will join the legendary time traveller in crossing paths with Shakespeare and battling rhino-headed invaders in the course of the 2007 series.
