David Beckham is to say adios to Spain after deciding not to renew his contract with Real Madrid. The 31-year-old former England captain won't have to miss out on the sunny lifestyle, however, as he and his family are all set to move to California.

"This week Real asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract for a further two season," he told a news agency on Thursday. "After considering several options to stay in Madrid or join other major British and European teams, I have decided to join LA Galaxy."

Los Angeles is also the home of the talented mid-fielder David Beckham soccer academy - which coincidentally shares its home with the Galaxy team. Both are based at the 27,000-seat Home Depot Center in Carson, California, just outside LA.

Back in April last year David hinted he would like to end his career Stateside. "I want to be part of a country that is passionate about sport. And I've got my academy in LA, which is important to me, because that is my life after the game." And rumours that David was serious about an imminent move to an American club surfaced in early December when his wife Victoria was spotted house-hunting in LA.

It won't take the couple and their three sons long to settle into Hollywood, as they've already made friends there, such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. The former Spice Girl has been spotted dining out in Beverly hills on numerous occasions with the movie star couple and their set.
