Veteran rockers Genesis announce new tour plans in Toronto

Following in the footsteps of fellow Eighties music veterans The Police and Van Halen, legendary British rockers Genesis have announced they are to tour North America for the first time in over 15 years. Phil Collins and his bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks made the announcement as they took to the stage at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night.

Explaining why they chose to announce their decision in Canada, Mike said: "We always appreciated that the Canadians… had a sort of affinity for us." And it seems the feeling is mutual, with the welcome the country extended to the band during their early days helping earn it a special place in the rockers' hearts.

"Those tours were quite hard. People didn't really know us, so I think having those shows in Canada where you felt they actually liked you was really important."

The 20-city tour will feature a two-hour set containing all of the band’s best known hits, including Invisible Touch, Turn It On Again and In Too Deep.

"There's no new album to sell, so touring defies business logic," quipped the Genesis frontman cheerfully about the outfit's decision to return to the road in North America
