Even the most graceful of red-carpet operators like Julia Roberts admit to nerves on facing the phalanx of snappers and fans at A-list gatherings.

How comforting then to have the company of your best friends at such an event, as Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Stella McCartney have had over the last few days at New York's most fashionable parties.

The evening after stealing the show with a glittering joint appearance at the celebrated annual Metropolitan Museum of Art gala, the gal pals were reunited at a dinner in honour of Time magazine's 100 most influential people.

British style maven Stella made the list, along with Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama, who chatted away together at the gala. And even in this august assembly the designer and her crew looked rather like they were on a girls' night out, there to sip wine and swap news rather than network.

Stella's friendship with the Lord Of The Rings beauty goes back ten years, and the actress was a guest at the fashionista's 2003 wedding to Alasdhair Willis.

So their table had a cosy atmosphere, with the stellar trio facing the cameras in the kind of fun-filled snap that young women the world over post on social networking sites.
