At the UK premiere of The Avengers, Chris Hemsworth was supposed to be promoting his appearance as action man Thor in the film. But with his heavily pregnant  wife Elsa Pataky by his side, the proud dad-to-be was more focused on his upcoming role as a father.

The Australian actor lovingly patted the Spanish beauty's tummy on the red carpet. Their new arrival will be a 'niece' or 'nephew' for Miley Cyrus – who dates Chris' actor brother, Liam Hemsworth. Chris shot  to fame after portraying muscle-bound Marvel character Thor in the 2011 blockbuster. Now he is back in The Avengers – an ensemble piece uniting a group of superheroes including Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.

Scarlett Johansson also reprises her role as Russian spy Natasha Romanoff, whose alter-ego is the feisty heroine Black Widow. Speaking at the premiere, the curvaceous 27-year-old admitted sticking to a gruelling fitness regime so she could fit into her unforgiving costume. "How come I get the rabbit food question?" she joked with reporters before adding: "Yes, surely. You're training and doing all that stunt work so you eat a lot of green things."
