Born Catherine Ford, the actress was raised by her mother Josephine, a florist, after Catherine’s father left very early on in her life. After studying at the

Central School of Speech and Drama in London

Catherine went on to play various roles in theatre plays including

The Way of the World

and

The Prince’s Way

before landing a role on TV programme

The Big Train

in 1998. Following some years on comedy sketch shows the red headed beauty was offered her own show on BBC2;

The Catherine Tate Show

which ran from 2004 until 2009. From there Catherine went on to explore the world of film and has played roles in several highly acclaimed movies including

Gulliver’s Travels

and

Monte Carlo

. However Catherine hasn’t deserted TV altogether and still stars in

Big School

as well as

Catherine Tate’s Nan

– in which she plays grandmother Joannie Taylor who is famous for constantly swearing and criticising other people. Catherine has a

ten-year-old daughter from her former partner Twig Clark

but her love life was thrust into the media limelight when it was discovered that the funnywoman was

dating singer Jason Orange from Take That

. The couple dated in secret for months but soon split up following their romance being made public. Not long after her

split from Jason in January 2012 Catherine met TV presenter Adrian Chiles

and the pair began dating. However after a year and a half together the couple called in quits in December 2013, citing heavy workloads for the reason behind the break-up.
