Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden appeared to confirm his relationship with Cameron Diaz before backtracking shortly afterwards.
The 35-year-old musician appeared to give the go-ahead for people to call him the Hollywood actress' boyfriend, after he went along with an interviewer’s stance on his current romantic status. When Nova FM Radio host Wippa acknowledged Benji’s recent outings with the 41-year-old star he wasn’t in a hurry to deny that Cameron was his girlfriend.
"You guys are both maturing now, you've got families, you're both in love," the presenter said to Benji and his brother Joel live on the airwaves, before adding: "Both got girls. Both got chicks and stuff."
Benji’s twin brother Joel is married to reality star and fashion designer Nicole Richie, and the couple have two children together.
The proud dad admitted that he was happy with his lot, stating: "Life is good, man." Then Benji failed to quash rumours of a relationship with blonde beauty Cameron by adding, "We're lucky guys!"
However on Wednesday morning Benji seemed to rewind when he realised his comments had caused a fuss and sent out a message suggesting his words were not to be taken in that context. “When media take interviews&twist them into stories to get cheap web hits-don't let it get to U-just remember the music and stay positive,” he posted on Twitter.
Earlier this month Benji and Cameron stepped out hand in hand in New York City where they looked happy and relaxed as they headed out and weren’t shy about showing their affection for each other.
The pair were first linked back in May when they spotted heading out to the gym together in LA. Sources confirmed that they had been spending a lot of time together in the weeks leading up to that.
It is thought that Benji’s sister-in-law Nicole Richie played matchmaker for the couple.
