Colin Andrew Firth is an English film, TV, and theatre actor, born the eldest of three children in Grayshott, Hampshire.

His films have earned more than almost £2billion from 42 releases worldwide. He has received an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and three Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as the Volpi Cup. His most notable and acclaimed role to date has been his 2010 portrayal of King George VI in The King's Speech, a performance that gained him an Oscar and many other worldwide best actor awards. Colin was forced to travel during his childhood years due to his parents' work, as his mother was a comparative religion lecturer and his father a history lecturer and an education officer for the Nigerian Government. Consequently, he spent time living in Nigeria and St. Louis, Missouri. Colin described this as a difficult time and claimed to have been a target of bullying when he returned to the UK as he felt that he was an outsider.

His one consistency was the ability to act, which lead him to decide that he wanted to be a professional actor. Colin fuelled his dream by attending drama workshops from the age of ten. He felt he wasn't academically inclined, until he continued further education at sixth form and was inspired by his enthusiastic English teacher who instilled in him a passion for literature.

The actor then moved to London and joined the National Youth Theatre. There, he developed contacts within the acting community, which secured him his first job working part of the wardrobe department at the National Theatre. From there, he went on to study at the Drama Centre London. Colin had a romantic relationship with actress Meg Tilly, his co-star in Valmont.

The pair had a son William Firth, and moved to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. His acting career slowed down until they broke up in 1994, and he returned to the UK. In 1997, Colin married Italian film producer and director Livia Giuggioli.

The couple now live in both London and Italy. They have two sons, Luca who was born in 2001 and Matteo who was born in August 2003. Firth started to learn Italian when he and Livia began to date and now he is fluent in the language. Colin is also a supporter of Arsenal F.C.
