In 1984 some of the world's biggest artists came together to form a charity supergroup, BandAid, with the aim to raise support for anti-poverty efforts in Africa. Now, thirty years later, some of 2014's biggest artists are forming a new supergroup, BandAid30, and re-releasing the hit song Do They Know It's Christmas to help fight Ebola.

SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Ed Sheeran, Adele, One Directon, Chris Martin, and U2's Bono are some of the names confirmed to take part in the supergroup - with Bono the only remaining member from 1984's original song.

At a live event on Monday, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, who were behind the 1984 version, revealed that they woudn't know for sure who would be singing until Saturday when all the artists would meet in London, but the pair did confirm Ellie Goulding, Bastille, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, Sam Smith, and Jessie Ware.

Other rumoured artists included Take That and McBusted. At the Microsoft Decoded Future event, Bob also revealed that they would like Rita Ora to sing on the record but that her work on The Voice may hinder her involvement.

Speaking of why they felt they needed to raise money for Ebola, Bob said: "Three weeks ago I got a call from the UN saying they required a 20 per cent increase across the board. They are very concerned about the situation in West Africa. "I don't like doing this stuff, it's quite embarrassing calling people you don't know, but it was that more than anything else that those people needed to be supported across the board, not just the people suffering from this filthy little virus." Bob also added that similar to 1984, American artists will be involved and that producer Quincy Jones will be bringing those artists together.

Ed Sheeran revealed: "Chris [Martin] came and sat with me at my O2 gig before Bob rang up. I was already on board before I was on board. "Speaking to The Mirror, Ed added: "Geldof knows everyone! I still haven't met him but he managed to get my number." The single will be 99p to download and £4 on CD.
