Shortly afterwards, his son Brody, 31, was pictured arriving at the scene with his girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter. While the reason for the accident is still being investigated, the same witness speaking to People noted that Bruce did not appear to cause the incident.

Police confirmed that a Prius started the accident when it came to a stop on the motorway. A white Lexus crashed into it, and was then rear-ended by Bruce's SUV, causing the Lexus to travel into opposing traffic and be struck by a black Hummer.

The 70-year-old woman who was driving the Lexus, who was reportedly one of Bruce's neighbours, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another woman and five children were also said to be hospitalised.

Sources added that the Lexus driver had been slowing down when she was hit, and that Bruce had not been speeding.
