They have been on opposite sides of the world for a couple of weeks, and it appears Ellie Goulding couldn't bear to be apart from boyfriend Dougie Poynter any longer. Ellie has flown over to Brisbane to be reunited with the McBusted star, who is currently supporting One Direction on their Australian tour.

The couple were spotted enjoying some downtime together ahead of the band's Brisbane show on Wednesday, and happily posed for a picture together with a fan. In the snap Dougie rests his arm on his girlfriend's leg while they sit at the beach.

Fans were excited to see the couple together because they weren't previously expecting Ellie to join Dougie in Australia. The 28-year-old, who scored her second number-one single on Sunday, has been busy recording new music in recent weeks.

Dougie hasn't mentioned his girlfriend's arrival on social media, but Ellie revealed that she was packing for Australia in a tweet on Sunday. The Love Me Like You Do singer also shared a picture of herself in front of a pagoda after her arrival in Brisbane, which received over 138,000 likes on Instagram.

Ellie will join her fellow 'McWags' including Giovanna Fletcher, Georgia Jones and Izzy Judd on the tour – they flew out with Giovanna and Tom Fletcher's baby son Buzz at the beginning of February.

The group appear to have become firm friends since Dougie and Ellie began dating in 2014. Ellie performed at Georgia and Danny Jones' wedding in August, and joined McBusted's other halves for a girly day out in October.

It is likely that Ellie will also run into One Direction star Niall Horan on the tour, whom she reportedly had a fling with in 2013. Despite the potential awkwardness of the situation, Dougie previously revealed that he wasn't fazed by supporting Niall's band on tour.

"We're all big enough and ugly enough to not really care…we all have exes don't we," Dougie told AAP in Sydney.

"It's not a big deal, it's not like it was a marriage," the 27-year-old added.
