Lady Gaga called Julie Andrews for advice before the Oscars

There was only one person Lady Gaga wanted to speak to ahead of her Oscars performance – Julie Andrews. The pop star paid tribute to cult classic The Sound of Music on stage at the prestigious film awards, and there was no one better placed to offer advice than the woman who made the songs famous 50 years ago.

"She called me about ten days before and she said, 'I just want to talk to you and make sure I don't offend. That what I'm doing is okay with you,'" Julie told People. "It was very generous of her."

"She said she'd been working so hard and she was singing everything in my keys. I said, 'Why? They're very high, even for me.' And she said, 'Because I wanted to honour you, so I did them in your keys.' That seemed like going one step beyond any place she needed to go."

Following the performance Julie joined the singer on stage at the Dolby Theatre, and has since admitted that she loved the tribute.

"She hit it out of the ballpark, and then she was gracious enough to hand it to me. So that's a really wonderful thing to do too I think.

"As they say in Hollywood jargon, 'She rates tall in my book,'" Julie said.

Julie is not the only high profile name to praise Lady Gaga in recent weeks. Taylor Swift took to Twitter to praise the singer, asking her followers: "Is it just me or is Lady Gaga, like, fully LIVING right now?!? #goals".

Meanwhile her fiancé Taylor Kinney's Chicago Fire co-star Sophia Bush also had nothing but good things to say about the pop star, describing her as her "woman crush Wednesday" and telling Taylor he is a "lucky man".
