Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger have split after five months
"They're just in two different places in their lives – he's in college and she's focused on her music and career."
Miley, 22, and Patrick, 21, were completely inseparable at the start of their romance – but things changed when Patrick went on his Spring Break trip to Cabo San Lucas in March and was photographed looking close with another girl.
Patrick denied that anything improper has taken place, confirming that the woman in question was "one of my best friend's girlfriends". Taking to Twitter, he told fans: "Would NEVER do anything against my GF."
The couple were inseperable at the start of their romance
An insider at the time told People: "He didn't cheat or kiss anyone but she's still not happy about the photos. It's just embarrassing for her, and for him. They're trying to work this through."
Another source confirmed to E! News that Arnold Schwarzenegger's son was "devastated and heartbroken" to think he had caused Miley any pain.
"He doesn't even know what to do with himself and just wants to hide from the world," the insider confirmed. "He's had some of his friends around for support, but he's very down and upset. He hasn't cracked a smile or been able to think about anything except Miley. He's so embarrassed and knows he screwed up."
Nevertheless, the couple seemed to have put all that behind them, and upon Patrick's return were pictured heading out for lunch together at Kiwami Sushi in LA. The pair were last spotted together in LA on 2 April. By all accounts, their split is amicable.
