Adele celebrated her 27th birthday on Tuesday by donning fancy dress. The Someone Like You singer shared a fun series of photo booth snaps from her special day which showed her dressed as her "hero" George Michael.

"Thank you for the birthday wishes I had a wonderful time! I was my hero x #gottahavefaith," she tweeted.

The photo shows the mum-of-one donning a slicked back quiff and aviator shades along with a faux goatee for a look reminiscent of George's style in the Eighties

Adele truly got into character as she pouted and struck a pose for the camera in the photo shared with her 22.6 million fans. However the notoriously private singer didn't give anything else away about her birthday celebrations.

George and Adele appear to have a mutual appreciation; the Wham star made a special trip to the UK from Australia to present Adele with the Best Album award at the Brits in 2012.

It is the first celeb fans have heard from the low-key singer since she tweeted her support for World Water Day in March. The Grammy winner has reportedly had to delay the release of her third album again, with the highly anticipated new music now scheduled to come out in September.

Adele turned 27 on Tuesday

A source told The Sun: "The album is currently scheduled for release in September. The most recent plan was for it to hit shops before the summer but that's now been scrapped.

"Adele's taking her time to make sure the album is perfect and doesn't want to compromise."

The London-born star took a break from music following the birth of her son Angelo with her partner Simon Konecki. However she has since returned to the studio and may have collaborated on a track with Lady Gaga judging by the selfie the American star shared of them together in January.

"Nothing like a Wednesday night bro-down with the beautiful Adele," Lady Gaga captioned a smiling selfie of them both together.
