It seems Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter's romance has run its course. The couple, who have been together for two years, only recently rekindled their relationship after a brief split in December, but have been forced apart again by their busy careers.
A source told the Daily Mirror's 3am: "They are finding it hard to spend time together as Ellie's music career takes her all over the world and she is pulled in different directions. Dougie is trying to make it in Hollywood as an actor and they are drifting apart."
Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter have reportedly split
Ellie, 29, is currently in the middle of a world tour, which will see her travel across Europe in March before she heads to North America in April for three months.
The British star recently enjoyed a two-week break, during which she made an appearance at the Brit Awards – but 28-year-old Dougie was noticeably absent.
The McBusted musician is currently in LA hoping to realise his dreams of becoming an actor, with his sights set on the theatre. A source previously told the Sun: "Acting is something Dougie has considered for a long time. He has taken lessons to grasp the basics after Ellie told him to go for it.
The couple have been forced apart again by their busy careers
"There's a big interest from agents as they think he'll make a credible actor. He knows a career in music isn't something that will last forever."
Just a few weeks ago, Ellie opened up about her long-distance romance with Dougie during an appearance on Lorraine.
"He's out in LA. He's working really hard, he's doing all sorts of things," Ellie said of her boyfriend. "He's started acting which is amazing and he's a complete natural so I'm excited to see what comes of that.
"You know we work it out, we figure it out. We're pretty realistic with things and we're pretty sensible about it so we just see each other when we can."
When asked if they will settle down at some point, Ellie said: "I mean yeah, it's just that sort of time when everything becomes up in the air… but at some point maybe."
