Last summer, the actress had nothing but good things to say about Garrett, and confirmed that their romance was going "really well". "We're the same age. We have similar backgrounds," she told Town & Country. "He feels like family to me."
Just a few months later, Kirsten 33, then revealed she was hoping to start a family in the near future. "I want to continue acting, but I also want to have kids," she told Net-A-Porter in November, "I think I'll be ready to have them in two years or something."
She also revealed what attracted her to 31-year-old Garrett, telling the publication that she has previously "dated men who had more of a feminine side and it didn't work."
It was widely thought that an engagement announcement was imminent
"I appreciate old-fashioned manners," she added. "I want a guy to pay for dinner and open the door for me. I love the masculine."
The Fargo actress previously dated and shared a home with Jake Gyllenhaal, but they split in 2004 after two years together. She also dated Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell for seven months in 2007.
Of her relationship with Garrett, she said: "I feel like we are good at doing our own thing but also at coming together. In other relationships… just we were too enmeshed. We had to do everything together.
"I see reflected in him what I see in myself – a sensitivity and someone who is family-oriented."
