Phillip Schofield may be best known today for his role as This Morning co-host alongside Holly Willoughby, but on Tuesday night, he reminded fans of his original sidekick when be bought Gordon the Gopher back from retirement and into the modern ages. Rather than being seen on a TV screen, he was broadcast to his followers on Instagram, something that would have been a distant vision back in 1985. Gordon’s appearance was short but sweet, with the lovable puppet sending fans into meltdown. “My all time hero”, wrote one, while another was reminiscent: “What a legend. I remember Gordon’s theme tune fondly." However, one fan made it clear that Phillip’s old partner-in-crime was still not a patch on his new one: “OMG I loved you and Gordon in that broom cupboard but love you and Holly more," they said.
Fans were pleased to see the appearance of Gordon the Gopher
Phillip told followers: "If you're of a certain age, you'll know who they are"
Earlier that evening, Phillip has posted another photo of a collection of iconic toys, writing: “Trying to find something & came across these! Hidden for years! if you're of a certain age, you'll know who they are!" Taking many fans back to their childhood, one wrote: “I remember that orange monkey/orangutan thing from the broom cupboard!!!!” while another joked: “Phew I don’t recognise them.. not as old as I thought."
Phillip joined forces with British actor Nigel Havers earlier in the day, as the pair interviewed a bemused Holly
It had been an eventful day for the popular TV presenter, who had spent some of his working morning with yet another side-kick, in the name of British actor Nigel Havers, who swapped seats with Holly during their live segment. Sitting next to Phillip, while a taken aback : “I saw you last night being interviewed. Must be so different to be interviewed, why don’t we swap for a minute”. Sitting next to Phillip, while a taken aback Holly took to her interviewee chair, Nigel cheekily asked her: “How’s it going? What are you doing for the rest of the day? How about a spot of lunch?” Laughing, Phillip chimed in: "Are you chatting her up? You can't chat up the guests! No! It's unacceptable. You smoothy."
