In the past, Ed has been romantically linked to the likes of Taylor Swift and Ellie Goulding. When Ellie claimed that they were just friends, Ed hit back and said on US radio show Clock 98.9: "I mean, normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends." Although this has yet to be confirmed, Ed previously told The Sun: "I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song. It’s a song that came at the time that I needed to write. That's the end of it."
