How are you handling your fame? Are you enjoying it?
Yes, I am enjoying it. Of course, some things get you down. I look at a girl, and suddenly it’s all over the papers and I can’t really say I don’t want people to know because people want to know. And I’m in the public eye, I can’t exactly say mind your own business.
Do you still have a private private life?
Well, not really… I’ve tried going out sometimes but because everyone thinks they know me personally, it’s pretty difficult. The friends I go out with I hardly speak to because I’m speaking to strangers all night, but these are the people who kept me in the house. All the fan mail I get, I write back to, though… I’ve spent a fortune on stamps!
Have you been surprised how popular you have become?
Yeah, I was really surprised because when I was in the house all I heard was abuse coming over the back wall… I was ready to get mobbed like Jade was, but it wasn’t as bad as that.
The thing that gets me is on the internet there’s a lady I met from Wales who did a website for me – www.alexsibley.com – that’s been top of the charts for God knows how long. In the last two days she’s had a hacker on there, and they’ve wiped off all the results of how many people log on. And I think that’s really upsetting because it’s something that’s a bit of fun and some of the other fans are taking it so seriously! I went onto Spencer and Kate’s websites and it’s amazing how much hate there is.
