James Acaster's time in The Celebrity Traitors might be nearly up, with the current Traitors planning to either recruit him, or murder him!

Before appearing on the show, James was known for his comedy work, with the star appearing on major shows like Mock the Week, Taskmaster and Hypothetical, which he hosted for four seasons alongside Josh Widdicombe.

The 41-year-old comedian, who hails from Kettering, also has a small acting career, appearing in Badjelly the Witch, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Bad Fairies, with the latter hitting cinemas next year.

The star is currently believed to be single, but in the past, the star has dated some major comedy legends, although one relationship ended when he was left for Rowan Atkinson, most famous for his role as Mr Bean.

Here's all you need to know about the comedian's dating life…

James' relationship with Louise Ford

James dated comedy actress Louise Ford between 2011 and 2013, with Louise having roles in Horrible Histories, Fast Girls, Chickens and Avoidance. Her most famous role is in the sitcom The Windsors, which satirises the British royal family, where she played the Princess of Wales.

However, the pair's relationship came to an end when Louise ended up meeting Rowan Atkinson when the duo appeared in Quartermaine's Terms. Rowan separated from his own wife, Sunetra Sastry, to be with Louise, and the pair now share a daughter.

James and Louise were an item until she left him

Addressing the break-up in his stand-up comedy tour, Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999, he joked: "I found out a year after we split up. I opened the newspaper and there's a photo of the two of them walking arm in arm down the street together and a full story about how they were a couple now.

"It's my job to say things that are funny, and the funniest thing that's ever happened to anyone happened to me, and I put it on the back burner out of respect. Until you get left for Mr Bean, you don't realise how frequently he pops up. There's a shop two streets from my house that sells masks of his face. There's nowhere where I'm going to go that he's not there."

James' relationship with Rose Matafeo

James moved on from Louise with the comedian Rose Matafeo, who is best known for her starring role in Starstruck. The New Zealand-born star has also appeared in 7 Days, Squinters and Funny Girls.

Rose and James don't discuss their relationship

Although it's unclear how the pair met, Rose was still living in New Zealand at the time, moving to London a year after she started dating the funnyman. The pair split in 2017, although they usually avoid speaking about the reasons behind their split, and in his material, it's believed James refers to her as 'Becky with the Good Hair'.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2021, Rose quipped: "Don't date comedians."
