The Princess of Wales has always been known to stick to an especially healthy diet, and is a proficient chef who loves to put together a nutritious home-cooked meal for her husband, Prince William, and their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day: it sets the tone, and kicks you off for the morning, so it's vital to get it right. Fortunately, the 44-year-old has got her day-starting meal down to perfection.

Much like her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex, it is known that the Princess of Wales enjoys a smoothie for her breakfast: an easy, digestible way to squash a nutritious meal into a simple form.

According to the Daily Mail, she blends together a combination of kale, spirulina (a type of algae known for its blue colour), matcha (grounded green tea leaves), spinach, romaine, coriander leaves, and blueberries for her perfect morning drink.

Princess Kate's smoothie breakfast is very nutritious

To find out more about why the Princess of Wales' breakfast smoothie is her way of starting the day right, we spoke exclusively to Gabriela Peacock, a qualified nutritional therapist with over a decade of experience in nutrition.

She explained: "Princess Kate’s smoothie is such a brilliant example of how simple, whole ingredients can deliver real nutritional impact. The leafy greens like kale, spinach and romaine are rich in vitamins and magnesium to support energy and hormonal balance.

"Whilst spirulina offers a concentrated source of plant protein and antioxidants. Blueberries are also fantastic, they support brain health and reduce inflammation," the nutritionist continued.

As to why these styles of smoothie are such a good choice for breakfast especially, Gabriella added: "It's easy to make, and easy to digest. It's hydrated and packed with micronutrients first thing in the morning – it sets your blood sugar up more steadily than a sugary cereal would."

The nutrition expert explained: "I often say to clients that if you can combine fibre, antioxidants and a little protein at breakfast, you’re giving your body exactly what it needs to feel energised and focused for the day ahead."

Princess Kate's other choice of breakfast

Another breakfast that the Princess of Wales is known to enjoy is a bowl of oatmeal, which is an equally nutritious, filling choice to get the morning off to a good start.

According to BANT-registered nutritionist Charlotte Faure Green, oats are packed with soluble fibres that help us to feel fuller for much longer, killing the urge to snack before lunchtime.

The expert explained to HELLO!: "This can curb those mid-morning or late-night cravings, making it easier to stick to a lower calorie intake across the day. The fibre in oats also helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is crucial for weight management."
