STELLA McCARTNEY TO LAUNCH A FRAGRANCE AND COSMETICS LINE

Fresh off the star-studded Paris runway show for her first own-name collection, Stella McCartney is set to launch both a perfume and a make-up line. The famed fashion designer’s team has negotiated a development deal with YSL Beaute – the cosmetics arm of the Gucci empire – who will manufacture and distribute the signature items.

Stella left her post at Chloe to launch her own line with the Gucci Group in a much-publicised deal – one in a series of major fashion moves this year including Gucci’s acquisition of Balenciaga. Stella’s first ready-to-wear collection is set to hit stores in January.

Although industry experts are expecting big things from Paul McCartney’s daughter, tough times may be on the horizon. London-based fashion figure Clay O’Shea – who designs for the label Slang – says Stella’s new line of cockney t-shirts are copies of his own designs which went on sale early this summer and were famously seen on the likes of singers Mel Blatt and Lisa Stansfield.

“The Slang label has been in stores for almost six months,” says O’Shea. “Stella McCartney is clearly a talented designer, so frankly I was surprised to see the slogans on the runway for next season. I will be seeking legal advice.”

A spokesman for Stella denies the allegations insisting the former Chloe head doesn’t know “anything about his clothes” and had been planning to use the cockney slogans “for some time”.
