Model Christy Turlington, said to be the most beautiful woman in the world, has postponed her forthcoming nuptials to actor-writer-director Ed Burns. But lovestruck fans of Ms Turlington and the Saving Private Ryan star shouldn’t get their hopes up; the wedding is still on, but it will take place at a later date.

The couple have decided to push back their happy day because of fears of more terror attacks. As they are keeping details of the marriage secret, there is still no confirmation as to where the ceremony will be. San Francisco, New York and Italy have all been mooted as possible locations.

One of the original supermodels - long before the term was applied to any mannequin that landed a big advertising campaign or stepped out with a celebrity - Christy suffers from emphysema after years of smoking heavily. After seven years of trying unsuccessfully to kick the habit, the model finally succeeded, and she may well ban smoking from her reception.

Her close friend Bono, the singer of Irish rock band U2, will give Christy away in place of her father, who died of cancer several years ago. She's keeping mum, however, on which of her many designer friends has been given the honour of creating the wedding dress.
