Sean Connery hosts NY tartan fest

Sir Sean was looking his usual dapper self in full highland attire this week as he hosted the glittering Dressed To Kilt fashion show at Sotheby's in New York on Monday.

The catwalk-fest is the main event of Tartan Week, a celebration of Scotland and its heritage marked by concerts, a 3,000-strong pipe parade and a ten-kilometre fun run through Central Park.

Also getting into the spirit of things was American actor Kyle MacLachlan, in a dramatic red and black check suit. Other guests included Scotland's first minister Jack McConnell, whose relationship with the former Bond star soured after a source close to the Scottish Labour leader appeared to suggest the 73-year-old actor's career was on its way down. The pair seemed to have put their differences aside on the night, however, and shared a brief conversation over a dram of whisky.

Mr McConnell, whose choice of kilt was a cutting-edge pin-stripe affair, was obviously keen to smooth over the rift. "We are both committed to Scotland. I will work with anybody to promote Scotland anywhere in the world," he said. "Sean is a great ambassador for the country and I'm sure over the years we will be talking again."
