Latin America's biggest catwalk event, Sao Paulo Fashion Week, is the place to catch an early glimpse at the sexiest beach-wear styles for summer 2008. Among Brazil's best-known swimwear labels debuting designs was Triton, which had apparently taken inspiration from Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie in presenting a hip hop cool collection.

High-waisted shorts, already this year's must-have, were embroidered with the words Just Delicious and teamed with tiny pink crop tops or cross-over bikini tops in electric pink. Leopard-print, oversized sunglasses and perilous platforms added to the ghetto-fabulous themes.

Over at Pako Pano, colourful prints were key for both one-pieces, bikinis and sundresses. But there were also some strikingly simple creations such as a black bikini - again with a cross-over top - with stand-out white embroidery. And at Agua de Coco - modelled by Brazil's top models such as footballer Ronaldo's former flame Raica de Oliveira - luxurious, cut-out swimsuits in deep sapphire mingled with moss green bikinis and botanical print kaftans.
