Met Ball 2012: Who's taking whom and what they're wearing

There are celebrity parties and soirees, and then there is the fun-filled glamour fest that is the Metropolitan Museum Ball.

For one night in New York, Hollywood and the fashion world come together in spectacular fashion providing a fascinating synergy between the world's top designers and their muses.

In 2010, Doutzen Kroes played a fairytale princess for Zac Posen while hiphop star Mary J Blige wowed with Donna Karan.

Last year, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's slither of satin and endless legs were the talking points as she arrived with Burberry chief Christopher Bailey.

And in 2009, all eyes were Marc Jacobs and metallic goddess Kate Moss

So who can we expect to make an impact on Monday?

Donna will make a colourful appearance when she steps out with cartoon 'supermodel' Polly Bean a creation of famed cartoonist Neil Kerber.

"Polly is my kind of gal," the New Yorker told Vogue, before describing the fictitious character from the comic Supermodels as "funny, creative, passionate, obsessive".

Her plus one repaid the compliment by saying "to be dressed by such an icon (like myself).... what  more could any girl want?"

Songstress of the moment Lana Del Rey will grace the arm of one of fashion's hottest talents, Joseph Altuzarra.

And there will be a meeting of the minds when king of cool Alexander Wang has rap wunderkind Azealia Banks, 20, show off a custom made urban ensemble.

Representing the Hollywood set are Jessica Alba and Hilary Swank who, along with models Kate Upton and Liu Wen, will make a stunning team at Michael Kors' table.
