Queen Mary is a scene-stealer in H&M skirt - and daughter's 18th birthday earrings

The Danish royal debuted her dress-turned-skirt from H&M's Conscious Collection in 2018, but it made an almost identical outing in 2026

Queen Mary of Denmark has made a conscious decision to blend designer clothing and high-street fashion in her royal wardrobe, with H&M proving to be one of her go-to brands.

Her most recent display of sartorial excellence was at the Global Fashion Agenda dinner at Statens Museum, where she stepped out in a skirt she first debuted in 2018. Proving timeless style never goes out of fashion, Mary cut an elegant figure in a green A-line skirt from the brand's 'Conscious Collection' eight years ago, featuring an olive green material with a jacquard print that fell to her ankles.

She styled the skirt with white mesh Jimmy Choo heels and a wrapover Jesper Høvring blouse, as identified by Royal Fashion Police. The look may look familiar to royal fans, since she wore a very similar ensemble featuring a crisp shirt and nude heels to the Copenhagen Fashion Summit in 2018.

However, it seems as though the wardrobe staple was originally a dress costing £150, which she had altered into a more versatile skirt.

After she stepped out in a near-identical look to fellow attendee Signe Wenneberg, she took to Instagram to explain the alterations. "And now this happened! Which is pretty unbelievable - because we apparently both got a tailor to sew a dress from H&M Conscious Exclusive to a skirt and chose a white men's shirt," said the journalist.

Shared fashion sense

For her most recent outing, Mary accessorised with Bruun Rasmussen diamond pendant earrings, which have also been in her jewellery collection since 2017. Back in 2025, she lent them to her daughter Princess Isabella for her 18th birthday celebrations at a gala performance at the Royal Theatre. Isabella paired the family diamonds with a black Jesper Høvring gown with a sparkly thread.

This acts as further proof that the mother-daughter duo take style inspiration from one another. Not only are they often pictured sharing clothes, such as Mary borrowing Isabella's pink Dolce & Gabbana coat in March 2025, but they often choose the same brands.

Mary has clearly passed her love of H&M down to her daughter, as Isabella sported a tutu from the high-street store on her 19th birthday in April 2026. She teamed the balletic black tulle midi skirt from Giambattista Valli Paris's 2019 collaboration with H&M with suede slingback heels by Tony Bianco, dressing the look down with a cream jumper.

Assessing her look, fashion stylist Sian Clarke of Styled by Sian previously told HELLO!: "Princess Isabella has such a contemporary twist on royal style, and I think she’s going to be a pioneer for the way royals choose to dress moving forward.

"Her birthday outfit feels like a beautiful blend of two styles. The first: chic, classic, calm, and confident, reflected in the neutrals and the simplicity of the silhouette. Then the second half… that incredible skirt. It brings drama, personality, and a real sense of self."
