Oscar winning American Beauty director Sam Mendes, who arrived hand-in-hand with girlfriend Kate Winslet, was joined by the crème de le crème of Tinseltown at the New York premiere of his latest flick Road To Perdition.

Stephen Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw took top billing at the charity event, which was attended by the movie’s stars Paul Newman – accompanied by wife Joanna Woodward – and Tom Hanks with his wife Rita Wilson. Fellow co-star Jude Law, unusually sporting a beard, was also there with his actress and TV producer wife Sadie Frost.

In the film Tom stars as Michael, a hit man working for mob boss John Rooney, played by Paul Newman. When Michael’s young son accidently discovers the nature of his father’s work after witnessing a murder committed by Rooney’s natural son, the pair are forced into flight. Which is where Jude comes in, as the killer hired to track them down.

Road To Perdition goes on general release in the US on July 12 and in the UK on August 30.
