Italian film star Monica Bellucci and her husband, French actor Vincent Cassel, have welcomed their first child together.

The baby girl, who weighed in at 6lbs 7oz, was born at a Rome hospital on Sunday. The couple have called the new arrival Deva, an Indian name meaning "celestial beauty". "Everybody's doing well," said a spokesperson for the actress.

Monica made headlines earlier this summer, posing nude for the cover of Vanity Fair when she was well into her pregnancy. Proud of her blossoming figure and discovering a newfound serenity, the former model said of pending motherhood: "I feel neither strong nor weak, just balanced. I wouldn't like to be in any other place, do any other thing or have any other body."

The sultry actress and her husband, who met eight years ago on the set of the French film, The Apartment, wed in 1999.
