The second season of The Celebrity Traitors is officially underway, and if the premiere episode is anything to go by, this series is shaping up to be the most dramatic yet.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the smash-hit series sees 21 celebrity contestants attempt to unmask the Traitors among them before they're 'murdered' in the middle of the night.

The series premiere drew an average of 8.9 million viewers, making it the most-watched debut episode of any series of the programme in the UK.

Warning, spoilers ahead!

In episode two, it was revealed that Richard and Maya decided to recruit James as a fellow Traitor, meaning that Amol was the first to be eliminated from the game.

Addressing his exit, Amol mused: "It's game over, it’s gutting to be the first out, but James is a fantastic player, and I guess people aren't going to suspect him, and they might suspect me."

What happened in the premiere episode?

The Celebrity Traitors premiere introduced audiences to a fresh batch of famous faces.

Actor Richard E Grant and Love Island host Maya Jama were selected as Traitors. The pair were then tasked with choosing two contestants: one to kill and one to recruit. They selected comedian James Acaster and University Challenge presenter Amol Rajan to plead their cases face-to-face.

Elsewhere in the episode, the players took part in a treasure hunt, winning £15,000 for their prize pool. Meanwhile, Julie Hesmondhalgh and Joe Lycett received shields, making them immune from the first murder.
