Harrison Ford shot to fame for his role in Star Wars
Harrison Ford found worldwide fame in the 1970s as Han Solo in the international smash hit Star Wars.
Although the film would come to define much of Harrison's career the 72-year-old has remained one of the most popular Hollywood actors, with a wide range of work.
Born in 1942, Harrison only took up acting in his final year of college to overcome his shyness. He later travelled to Los Angeles where he took on voice work and bit parts.
He soon trained as a carpenter to support his family and became a door hand for The Doors before being hired to build cabinets for director George Lucas. It was then that Harrison was cast in his lead role for the 1970s cult teen film American Graffiti.
