Katie Waissel has hinted that she may return to The X Factor as a new judge. The controversial contestant, who starred in the seventh series of the show, posted a cryptic message on Twitter that had fans speculating whether she would be making a panellist debut. After performing on Saturday's night show in a medley with other ex-contestants, Katie bid farewell to her native London as she prepared to fly back to Los Angeles. "Bye Bye London!! See y'all on the other side.... #seeyounextyear #confirmed #chair," she tweeted to her 203,000 followers, suggesting that she had a place as a judge.

Making her return to The X Factor stage, Katie performed I've Had The Time Of My Life with fellow singers Wagner, Chico, Stevi Ritchie and Chloe-Jasmine Whichello. At the end of their rendition, the 28-year-old was seen mouthing "You owe me" to Simon Cowell, which also left viewers confused as to what she meant. She seemed to reveal on Instagram that show bosses had specifically asked her to fly over to perform. Katie, who has made no secret of her disaccord with her ex-mentor Cheryl in the past, also spoke about wanting "closure".

Controversial contestant Katie Waissel posted on Instagram that she wanted 'closure'

"I never really had a chance to say my farewells to London so I wanted to thank the show for flying me over and giving me that opportunity," her note on Instagram read. "Also, to appear on this show 4 years later in whatever context this may be, is a sure fire way to put closure on the past and inspire people to always get back on the horse...". Simon has made no comment to Katie's social media posts, but did send a generic message on Twitter to his 11million fans, writing: "I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who worked on the show this year." Katie is currently the lead singer of rock band Red Velvet.
