Peter Andre has admitted he asked his wife Emily for permission before signing up to compete on Strictly Come Dancing. The Mysterious Girl singer, who was the seventh celebrity contestant to be revealed, said he only agreed to appear after getting the approval of his wife.

"Of course I asked her permission," he told Free Radio. "Guys, I wear the trousers, but she picks them for me. She picks the colour, the size, the belt. I mean, you have to ask permission."

The 42-year-old also revealed that his wife has already been teasing him around some of the sequinned outfits he may be forced to wear on the BBC entertainment show.

"She's already sending me pictures of sparkly outfits with smiley faces at the end," he said, adding: "It came about because Strictly have been kind enough to ask me for the last three years."

Peter has admitted that he is "nervous" about competing on Strictly, and is adamant that his career as a pop star won't give him an advantage over the other contestants, who include Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo, BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood and TV chef Ainsley Harriott.

Peter was the seventh celebrity confirmed for Strictly 2015

"How do we know the weather lady doesn't go home and underneath her weather costume is sparkles and she is unbelievable?" he asked. "What about Ainsley Harriott? He's good with his hands, but with his feet? What he doesn't know is I'm gonna be picking his brain about cooking, I'm gonna exhaust him. It's distraction."

Peter was confirmed as the 7th contestant for the show on Wednesday, following months of speculation. It wouldn't come as a surprise if he was paired with professional dancer Ola Jordan, who has openly said that she would like to coach the dad-of-three.

"I want a celebrity who can dance, someone to take me all the way to the final. Peter Andre, please!" she told The Sunday People in June.

Peter and his new wife Emily MacDonagh, 26, married in July in Exeter, after a three-year relationship. The pair got engaged in January of last year, around the same time that Emily gave birth to their daughter Amelia.
