While many of us spend Christmas relaxing and enjoying quality time with friends and family, in soaps it is usually a more dramatic affair. Fans of the big three – Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders – won't be disappointed this year as some of the biggest storylines are set to kick-off over Christmas and New Year.

From weddings to shock deaths, read on for spoilers of how Christmas will unfold on the cobbles, up in the Dales and down in Albert Square…

Coronation Street:

A Christmas proposal is on the cards for Tracy and Robert, but could her vengeful ex Rob stand in the way of their happiness? After summoning Robert to visit him in prison, Rob reveals that Tracy has been coming to see him in secret, leading the chef to think twice about the proposal.

An unsuspecting Tracy has already seen the engagement ring and pushes Rob to propose, but before he pops the question he challenges Tracy about her deception in a dramatic confrontation that leaves her hopes shattered.

A happier Christmas is in store for Fiz and Tyrone as Hope is allowed to come home from hospital in time to enjoy the winter wonderland they have arranged. The family's spirits are lifted even higher when Tyrone proposes to a delighted Fiz.

Love is in the air on the cobbles this Christmas as Kylie and David reunite, while a new romance sparks between Kevin and Anna. However Carla could wreck her engagement to Nick after a drunken infidelity with Robert when they meet at the casino.

EastEnders:

The Beale and Mitchell families come together for Christmas dinner, and unsurprisingly it quickly descends into a chaotic confrontation as Sharon insists that Bobby is finally brought to justice for the murder of his sister Lucy. As the drama unfolds, the events lead to a dramatic car crash involving members of both families – and sadly not everyone will survive.

Elsewhere on the square, Stacey gives birth in the middle of the local nativity, and it soon becomes evident that something is seriously wrong with the new mum as she prepares to flee Walford with her newborn. Will she be stopped in time?

Meanwhile Mick and Linda's wedding could be far from 'Happily Ever After' as Dean shows up to exact his revenge, plunging himself and the newlyweds into grave danger in the process.

Emmerdale:

Gordon's return to the village prompts Aaron to go off the rails and help Ross with a warehouse raid that ends in disaster. With the police after Aaron, it may be that only Gordon will be able to help him…

As Gordon shares his fears for Aaron with Chas, they end up reminiscing about the past and end up kissing. But is Gordon all that he seems?

The police investigation into the warehouse raid uncovers fresh evidence into Robert's shooting, leading them to Ross' home. While Robert confronts Ross with a firearm, the discovery that he was involved in the shooting prompts Debbie to pack her bags and escape Emmerdale, leaving baby Moses behind with Ross.

Meanwhile, after confessing all about his dementia to Laurel, Ashley comes round to the idea of getting back together with his ex-wife. The newly-reunited couple plan to tell Harriet, but will Ashley change his mind?
