Cher is set to make a return to the big screen! It has been revealed that the singing sensation has landed a role in the highly-anticipated sequel to Mamma Mia!, titled Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. Earlier this week, the 71-year-old Oscar winner teased her appearance on Twitter, writing the lyrics to one of Abba's hit songs: "Fernando… I Remember Long ago another Stary Night Like This." She also shared a picture of pair of jazzy silver metallic boots, hinting her involvement. It has not been confirmed which role Cher will play, but it seems likely she will be showing off her dance moves and talented vocals.

Director Ol Parker also confirmed Cher's role in the movie, which is based on the ABBA-inspired musical of the same name. He tweeted: "This is exciting. @cher has come to play. And rule." Earlier this year, it was announced that the popular musical will return for a sequel, with many of the original stars all set to reprise their roles. Mamma Mia 2 will feature more ABBA songs that weren't included in the 2008 movie, alongside with "reprised favourites". The sequel is scheduled to be released in July 2018, ten years after the original.

Meanwhile, Downton Abbey star Lily James is set to take on the role of a young Donna, the character originally played by Meryl Streep. The British actress will have no trouble with the musical, having performed A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes for the 2015 Cinderella remake. Leading stars Meryl, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth and Dominic Cooper have all been confirmed to return. In a recent interview with BANG Showbiz, Dominic revealed: "Mamma Mia 2 is in the works. We are all dancing. All the original cast are returning. We are all there. We are all a bit baggy around the jewels and we are all a bit more sunburnt."
