Netflix has established a global reputation for producing smash hits like Stranger Things, Wednesday and Bridgerton. But amidst the platform's impressive library of binge-worthy content, subscribers are all too familiar with the frustration of seeing beloved series come to an abrupt end.
The service has a history of shelving popular titles, including Shadow and Bone, Santa Clarita Diet, Lockwood & Co., and Mindhunter.
This year, the trend continues with the cancellation of 11 more series. This includes the Japanese sci-fi thriller, Alice in Borderland, which first debuted in 2020. Netflix confirmed in January that the show concluded with its third season.
Based on Haro Aso's manga, the series had been hailed as a "masterpiece" by fans. While season two dominated with 61.2 million viewing hours over its opening weekend, the third and final season – which drew 25 million views – provided a definitive conclusion.
What is Alice in Borderland about?
The series follows Arisu, a video-game-obsessed young man who finds himself trapped in "Borderland," an alternate-dimension version of Tokyo. To survive, he and his companions must navigate a series of lethal challenges.
Which other Netflix shows were cancelled in 2026?
The year has also seen the cancellation of the Western drama The Abandons. Despite a strong start – pulling in 19.8 million views in its first 28 days – the show struggled to maintain momentum.
Other notable exits include the anime series Terminator Zero, which failed to draw the necessary viewership despite critical acclaim, and the Duchess of Sussex's lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which did not reach the top 300 most popular shows in the first half of 2025.
This wave of cancellations also includes The Vince Staples Show, Pop The Balloon LIVE, Selling the City, Class, Miss Governor, Bandi, and Star Search.
