Netflix's smash-hit teen drama Outer Banks has officially made its highly anticipated return for its fifth and final season – and loyal fans haven't wasted a second getting stuck into the ten new episodes.
The popular Netflix series, which premiered in 2020, follows a tight-knit group of teens – known as the Pogues – as they embark on a hunt for lost treasure in their hometown of North Carolina.

What happens in Outer Banks season 5?

The new episodes pick up following the shocking season four finale, which saw JJ (Rudy Pankow) killed at the hands of his own father, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).
Far from home in Morocco, John B (Chase Stokes), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) struggle to come to terms with the loss.
"They've lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats," reads the official synopsis.
"With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they've been chasing since the beginning.

The cast of Outer Banks season 5
Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, Carlacia Grant, Austin North, and Fiona Palomo reprise their roles in season five. They're joined by Tony Crane and Cullen Moss, who returned as series regulars.
What have viewers said about Outer Banks season 5?
Devoted fans stayed up late to binge-watch all ten episodes. Taking to social media, one person wrote: "Started the last season of outer banks earlier at 6pm and finished all 10 episodes now at 3am," while another added: "This season took me on an emotional roller coaster ride for sure."

Why isn't Outer Banks returning for season 6?
In November 2024, it was confirmed that the hit teen drama would conclude with its fifth season. It's a decision made by co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, who said they had always imagined "a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship".
