You might want to think twice before throwing out your old DVD collection, as some forgotten favourites could be worth hundreds of pounds. From cult classics to quirky limited-edition box sets, these 11 sought-after releases could fetch a small fortune from the right collector.
Bally Casino revealed the old DVDs that hold a surprising amount of value, with collectibles expert Tracy Martin sharing that it was important to do your research before disposing of an old video.
"There are so many reasons things are collectible. People don't always recognise they have things of value, which is why they turn to valuers like me or do their own research online," she told Bally Casino. "Always research to ensure you get the best price achievable for your collectible by looking to see what similar items have sold for in the past."
She added that selling old DVDs via auction can help drive the price up, as "there is the option for worldwide visibility and also is more likely to encourage people to bid before the item expires – people love a deadline".
Tracy explained that starting the sale at a reasonable price attracted buyers, and ending the listing at the right time was paramount. "Sunday night between 8 and 9 p.m. is perfect as people are home relaxing, browsing the internet."
DVDs can fetch higher prices for a myriad of reasons, including having rarities or oddities like a misspelling, being a variation of the normal release, or simply for nostalgic purposes, as Tracy shared.
In particular, DVDs from the '90s and '00s have been growing in popularity as people from younger generations look for that nostalgia hit.
"DVDs are one of the hot areas at present, and examples from the '90s and '00s are starting to achieve interesting prices," she said. "For example, horror movies have always realised the most on the secondary market as people love scary movies."
