Whether you suffer with acne or just the occasional breakout, hormones, seasonal changes or even switching up your skincare routine can trigger breakouts. But forget smothering your spots in toothpaste or squeezing lemon juice over your skin, we’ve found the best spot products out there, proven to blitz blemishes for good.

Eminence Clear Skin Willow Bark Exfoliating Peel, £55Used as a twice-weekly intensive treatment after cleansing, just apply to a cotton pad and wipe over the skin. Unlike other at-home peels, which can leave you red-faced, this uses natural ingredients like willow bark extract to calm down irritation and tomato extract to balance oil production.

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Spot Sticker, £19 for 16 stickersPop these clever stickers on before bed. Containing Salicylic Acid to decongest blocked pores, they shrink spots, reduce redness and speed up the skin’s recovery after a breakout. Keep them on your desk for when spots strike unannounced!

Silk’N Blue, £75Worth the investment, this pain-free portable device uses blue light therapy to heal and prevent acne and blemishes. OK for use anywhere on the face, once the bacteria within the spots absorb the blue light, it kills off the infection, shrinking swelling. Use for just 15 minutes, twice weekly and you’ll notice a clearer complexion.

Face B4 Anti-Bacterial Face Wash, £14.99It’s not pretty looking, but it more than deserves its award of being the UK’s most effective face wash. A cleanser-toner duo, it contains the Holy Grail in blemish fighting ingredients - Salicylic Acid.

Medik8 Beta Gel, £31Popped on morning or night, this potent gel is a firm favourite of the HFM! beauty team for its speediness at shrinking spots. The precision nib means you can apply direct to problem areas and it’s quick-drying formula means you can apply make-up straight after too. Stash it in your handbag for fix-ups.

Mizon Blemish Out Pink Spot, £14Korean brand, Mizon have got spots sorted. This two-phase treatment combines a cocktail of anti-inflammatory ingredients to purge any pimples. Just dip a cotton bud in the solution, without shaking, and apply direct to the spot. The pink powder dries up the spot while the liquid solution disinfects and neutralises bacteria.

Avène Triacnéal Treatment Cream, £23For super sensitive skin that’s prone to redness, Avene is soothing and doesn’t leave flaky patches. Whilst this targets blackheads and spots, it also fades any scarring left behind from acne. Another favourite with the HFM! beauty department.

Aesop Control, £15Often spot treatments can be harsh on the skin, drying out the skin around the suspect area as well as the blemish itself but this gel takes a softer approach. Containing Aloe, known for its healing abilities, it soothes as well as cures stubborn spots..
