Perfect, power lips have dominated for several seasons thanks to the emergence of bold lip kits, led by Kylie Jenner and embraced by the beauty industry. But finally, a new lip trend is set to see us return to a more relaxed and undone look. If you've struggled to colour in between the lip lines, worn-in lipstick is an easy-peasy beauty trend that will see you hit the party season looking fresh and on-trend.

Make-up artists debuted the look at the autumn/winter 17 catwalks shows, showcasing extremely smudgy colour around the mouths of models at Preen and blurred lip lines at Topshop Unique's presentation. But moving on from the catwalk looks, smudged lippy is perfect for a refreshed lip look to move us on from matte pout overkill.

Return of the non-matte

Matte lips are so old hat. A red lip will always be sexy but smudging your lip is a way to make it look your pout look much more modern. And where the catwalk leads, we follow. Also, it's practical. No, really. A faded lip is ideal for party season, as you can relax about making sure it stays perfect throughout the evening.

How to recreate the look

You won't need a fiddly lip kit or any special tools to get this look. Ditch the harsh liner and simply apply your lipstick of choice into the centre of the lips and pat outwards for a just kissed, undone, natural lip look. This look works using shades ranging from plummy purples like MAC Lipstick in Hang Up to vibrant citrussy shades like Burberry's Kisses Sheer Orange Poppy. If you must make use of your lip kit, use your fingers to apply the colour for an instant update to your beauty look without spending a penny. If you can actually get a willing volunteer to kiss your lips smudgy - even better!
